Cupping?

Cupping is a Chinese version of deep tissue massage, this method adheres glass cups to the skin in order stimulate the flow of the body’s blood, chi, and lymph. Cupping is used to promote circulation and energy flow and is known to relieve musculoskeletal pain, particularly back and neck pain, as well as a number of other conditions.

Types of cupping

Dry Cupping

  • Most popular technique
  • Cups are placed on the back & carefully heated using fire
  • Hot cups are sealed off & remain in place for a period of time

Moving Cupping

  • Similar to dry cupping but involves applying massage oil to the skin first so the heated cups can glide over tense areas
  • Sometimes combined with dry cupping by applying oils after cups are removed and then a moving cup is applied

Wet Cupping

  • Involves blood-letting, usually by making a tint incision into the skin before the cup is applied and blood is drawn
